Nic Taylor of Staples Promotional Products based in Mitcham, Surrey, & formerly of CMC in Luton, is embarking on a challenge to scale Mount Kilimanjaro in January 2011. His sponsored climb will raise money for a very worthy cause, Railway Children (www.railwaychildren.org.uk – Railway Children has been reaching out to vulnerable street children around the world for more than a decade, with projects in the UK, India and East Africa.) Being a father himself, Nic felt it was important to tackle Kili to give kids less fortunate than his own son a chance. “Some of the stories we heard from our contact at Railway Children were heartbreaking, if spending 8 days in tent, eating powdered food, freezing cold and with altitude sickness saves just one child and gives them a chance in life, then it will be worth it”

The trip is an 8 day trek and is classified as extreme, from 30?c at the rainforest base to minus 25?c at the glacier summit and a 15-18 hour trek on summit day! This will be a very tough mental and physical challenge. The support team is the same team that successfully took the Comic Relief Team to the summit so he’s in good hands.

Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. It is among the tallest freestanding mountains in the world, with Uhuru Peak rising to an altitude of 5,882 m (19,298 ft) from base to summit.

As well as training hard to get as physically fit as possible for this high altitude challenge Nic is also trying to raise ?2,500 in sponsorship, so if you would like to sponsor him please visit his Virgin Giving page at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/nictaylor.
Every pound raised goes to a great cause and really makes a difference.
