Sourcing City have completed their annual analysis of the UK Promotional Merchandise Market and are delighted to report that the industry experienced a significant growth of 8.6% in 2013. The total market is now over ?830 million, which represents a growth of ?67.5 million.

Recent press report have stated that’s the UK advertising market is set to have its best year since the pre-recession days of 2008. This is driven by the solid indicators for economic recovery, and we also have the World Cup in Brazil to look forward to boosting our marketplace. The latest IPA Bellwether report found that advertisers raised their budgets for a fifth quarter in a row in the final three months of 2013, and Warc has upgraded the UK’s growth forecast by a significant margin (1.7%) from its report in June last year.

Once again, it is the larger distributors who are reporting the majority of the growth as the major blue chip end-user market experiences recovers.

Ceased Trading Companies: Ironically, the past year saw a greater number of companies ceasing to trade than in the previous few years. In 2013, 122 Distributor companies fell by the wayside, many of whom were under ?500k turnover. This was the highest loss of distributors since 2009.  Supplier companies who ceased to trade totalled 56, which was the second highest number than before 2006.
