Marks & Spencer have lost a court ruling in London over whether it used Interflora Group Ltd trademarked terms to trigger advertisements on search engines.

The judge ruled that the London-based retailer can’t use the trademarked terms as keywords to drive customers to its website through advertisements on search engines.

Some companies in our own industry may use ‘Competitor Keywords’ in ‘Google Adwords’ activity. The misuse of competitor trademarks to generate enquiries is now proven to be illegal.
