The BPMA and its members have all expressed their deep concerns for the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine. The UK stands behind Ukraine at this time and understandably many members have already expressed a desire to help. Offers have come in support with donated goods and items to help the people of Ukraine both in their home country and to the countries on Ukraine’s borders who are providing extraordinary help and provisions to the thousands fleeing the dangerous situation they have suddenly found themselves in.
Donating
We have contacted several official agencies to ascertain if providing goods is welcome. We have been asked to relay the request to provide financial support and only donate goods to those organisations who have requested them. Below we have noted the various disaster relief operations who welcome financial donations. In addition, details of an active goods collection being undertaken by BPMA members Prominate, who have offered to collect goods to distribute via an agreed network.
Keeping you updated
As this situation changes, the BPMA is in contact with all NGOs to see where and how any clothing or other supplies can help. It is important for us to provide what is needed and requested. We will ask the industry for relevant products as and when we receive updates. It is worth noting that some other efforts in other sectors have already found goods not clearly classified as humanitarian aid have been subject to customs and border checks. Everyone wants to help and it’s now making sure this is done in the most expeditious way.
Our Ukrainian friends and colleagues our in our thoughts. If you have any further information you wish to share on support, please contact Carey Trevill directly.
Collecting Goods for Ukraine
Prominate have asked us to help communicate the following goods collection. IPPAG have partners in Romania and Poland who are collecting goods for the people of Ukraine. Below is a specific list of required items. Please note that whilst there are some textiles on the list, we have been told there have been a lot of clothing donations so clothing items are less in demand than the others on the list.
- Blankets (adults/ children)
- Jackets, vests, hats, socks (children & adults)
- Raincoats
- Towels
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, soaps, deodorants, shampoo
- Women essentials (tampons)
- Children diapers/nappies, baby milk, baby clothes
- Masks, disinfectants, wet napkins
- Mattresses, sleeping beds, inflatable mattresses, bed lingerie
- Others: cooler bags, backpacks, thermos, charged power banks & cable connectors
Prominate UK will be able to coordinate delivery to Romania and/or Poland but in order to work out the logistics of this please contact Prominate by email to Colette.jeanes@prominate.uk with the items you have, plus consignment weight and dimensions. They can then check items are still required and work out the logistics.
Please note if Prominate accept items and have arranged logistics but then are told the items will not be required in the Ukraine, Prominate partners with UK charity Giving World and Prominate can then arrange for the items to be donated there but will advise if this is the case.
Prominate UK will be funding the delivery into Romania and/or Poland.
Donations
The request from all disaster relief organisations is to secure financial donations to support all aspects of humanitarian relief in the country. Please note this is not an exhaustive list but recognised official NGOs operating now to support those fleeing conflict. As the situation changes, any requests for goods will communicated to the industry.
