In the last few days we have started to hear reports from various Promota members who have attempted to leave, but are being sent solicitors letters demanding payment or court action in 14 days. During the time for renewals the industry was confused, due to most people understandably waiting for the outcome of the merger talks. In spite of this, Promota appear to be holding dissatisfied members to the letter of the contract. It is no secret that we have been long term & fervent supporters of Promota, and we are now in despair at their continued and predicted demise. We feel that Promota have made several poor strategic decisions over the past few years & despite promises of new initiatives, we cannot see anything new of real value being delivered to members. In these tough economic times it is ironic that they are now using members money to threaten to sue members who wish to leave.

Forcing members to stay due to the ‘small print’ is a bit like locking an old girlfriend in the bedroom, it’s just not right! The days I experienced when Promota chairman, of over 1000 members are now long gone, and it is painful to watch a situation like this occur, & I am sure I am not alone in my sadness.

If any Promota members who have tried to resign would like to let us know, (email sarah@sourcingcity.co.uk) we will approach the BPMA to see if we can find a way to resolve this as an industry group.
