Back in January 2022, James Biggin, managing director of promotional merchandise distributor Steel City Marketing, was invited to join The Children’s Hospital Charity as an ambassador. “It really took me by surprise but I accepted of course! The hospitals work is groundbreaking and a lot of which is supported by the amazing work the charity does” explains James.
Sheffield Children’s Hospital is one of only three dedicated children’s hospitals in the UK and is unique in the breadth of its expertise to support children and young people. The work that the Children’s Hospital Charity does funds specialist goods and services that the NHS does not cover. From life-saving equipment, to new facilities, comfortable environments for the patients and vital research and treatment for thousands of children from across the world.
“I had my own experiences as a child in the hospital, including a few nights stay post op. I can remember the high level of care for what was such a busy place to be. Both my children have had operations as babies at the hospital, luckily only minor ones. So it is a real privilege to be able to give back and support such a brilliant hospital.”
As ambassador to the charity, James will be helping to keep the Sheffield Children’s Hospital at the forefront of paediatric care. With this in mind, James has already planned his first fundraising venture. Starting on June 2nd 2022, he will be running The West Highland Way; an epic 96 mile (154km) stretch from Glasgow to Fort William and James plans to complete it in just four days.
