The Promotional Gift Award 2014 Winners

The Promotional Gift Award organised by the Cologne-based publishing company, WA Publishing has never seen so many prize-winners as this year: The quality and creativity of the 255 submitted entries was so high that in the end 53 products and campaigns were presented with a Promotional Gift Award 2014, the coveted design and communication prize of the promotional products industry. Pencils that sprout herbs, when they are planted; frying pans that can be imprinted on the inside, ballpoint pens made out of liquor bottle tops, gloves that you can make phone calls with, edible World Cup turf and many other creative developments were found to be prize-worthy by the expert panel of judges on December 11 and 12, 2013 at the Hotel Altenberger Hof, near Cologne.

In total 194 promotional products manufacturers and distributors, advertising agencies and designers had entered their innovations from the haptic advertising sector for the competition. The majority of the entries came from Germany, however 80 products were sent in from 15 other European countries, for instance from Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Slovenia. The Promotional Gift Award has been held by the Cologne-based publishing company, WA Publishing, since 2003 and it pays tribute to innovative promotional products and campaigns. The communication prize is awarded in seven categories: In 2014, twelve products were distinguished in the rubric “Give-aways” and 15 in the category “Communicative Products”. There were five award-winners in the “Premium and Branded Products” sector, ten in the rubric “Custom-made Products”, five in the category “Best Practice”, four in the category “Packaging” and two in the rubric “Customising Technologies”.

All of the entries were evaluated by a panel of judges comprising of industry experts. This year the panel included five experts from Germany, Austria and Switzerland: Nana Kreyenberg (Volkswagen Zubeh?r GmbH, Wolfsburg), Eva Spahn (Lufthansa WorldShop GmbH, Frankfurt), Martin Zettl (marke[ding], A-Wels), Michael M?tzener (diewerbeartikel gmbh, CH-Schwyz) and Michael Scherer (WA Publishing, Cologne).

The award-winning products will be presented to a broad audience of marketing experts at the HAPTICA? live ’14 on March 26, 2014 at the Palladium in Cologne, where all 53 prize-winners will be on display from 10 am to 7 pm in a special exhibition. Furthermore, the award ceremony of the Promotional Gift Award will also be staged at the HAPTICA? live ’14.

Like the Promotional Gift Award, the HAPTICA? live, which celebrated its premiere in 2013, also places the focus on the create diversity and concrete application of promotional products – the “Experience of Haptic Advertising” unites a trade fair with a lecture programme, special exhibitions, networking and of course the prize-ceremony and presentation of the winners of the Promotional Gift Award.
