Richard Parker, the Mayor of the West Midlands, got a close-up look at First Editions’ ground-breaking Foamo cup when he visited the site where it is manufactured.
Mr Parker was invited to tour Tyseley Energy Park (TEP) by Birmingham’s Lord Mayor, Zafar Iqbal, and was so impressed with the Foamo that the revolutionary cups will now feature at a forthcoming event for MPs which the regional mayor is hosting.
The Tyseley and Hay Mills area of east Birmingham was once the cradle of the industrial revolution. Now, with unrivalled green credentials in future mobility, low carbon and electrification technologies, it is hoped that the West Midlands is poised to lead a new, green industrial revolution.
The main purpose of the mayoral visit was to share a vision for the area as a catalyst for change across the region, and how it might become a world-leading innovation district for clean technologies and the circular economy.
First Editions’ MD Mark Alderson said: “This was a great opportunity to present Foamo, and I also really enjoyed learning about the other businesses here at TEP.
“It was a real honour to have been invited to this round table to discuss the future of sustainable UK manufacturing. It will be really interesting to see if our efforts affect how the £1 billion funding promised for east Birmingham and north Solihull is spent!”
