Iona Lake, production manager at Scanglo Ltd, is a keen athlete and 3,000 steeplechaser. In fact, so good is Iona that she is chasing her dream of representing England at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane in 2018.

Having overcome a long term hamstring injury whilst at at Virginia University in the USA, her results this year have been impressive. Competing in the British T&F Championships and World Trials in July she romped away from the field winning comfortably in 9min 57.53, although a time short of the World Championships qualifying time. In her next appearance on the track at Bedford later that month, she took the English title winning in an improved 9min 50.61.

Her toughest race test to date was the World Challenge Series in Zagreb, where she didn’t disappoint, coming up against six Kenyans, a couple of Americans, an Australian and Great Britain’s World Championship representative Rosie Clarke, Iona Lake finished eighth in nine minutes, 39.03secs – nearly six seconds inside the Commonwealth qualifying time.

Scanglo are immensely proud of Iona and have everything crossed for news from England Athletics who head the selection process. In the meantime Iona continues on her gruelling training regime and of course her invaluable gruelling work at Scanglo!
