The Head Offices of 3M in Bracknell was the venue for year 3 of the BPMA Student Design Award finals. There were an amazing 120 entries for this years competition and the Students from Brunel University didn’t disappoint with a wide array of both innovative and commercial designs. The competition is based around the design of a new Promotional Product which is both eye catching and commercially viable. This is set against entry criteria of both final cost and originality.

The entries were whittled down to just 10 finalists by the panel of judges that included Gordon Glenister (BPMA), Stephen Barker( LCR Hallcrest) , Lee Callaghan (Pepagon) and John Travis (Will International).

In a ‘Dragons Den’ style judge off the finalists presented their designs to the panel for their final adjudication. The winner was announced as Lauren Brickley, with her ‘Adcept’, Capsule Wardrobe’ . Ideal for concerts and outdoor events it lends itself to multi Company branding.

In second place was Joanne Barnard with a clever variation on a theme and her Ball Maze Clock and in third place was a very innovative concept based on a popular promotional product, the Trolley Coin designed by Jools Fenlon.

The Winner, Lauren Brickley was awarded a cash prize of ?600, while second place came in at ?300 and third place received ?100.00. All remaining finalists took home ?50 plus a 3M goody bag. The competition was jointly sponsored by the BPMA, Pepagon, Will International Ltd and 3M.

“The standard of entries just keeps getting better and better” commented Gordon Glenister. Stephen Barker who has been working tirelessly to bring this whole project together said, ‘the Students and Tutors at Brunel University have yet again put so much effort into these projects and it has been a pleasure working along side them for the last six months.
